BEA’s original July figures show spending values rose more than -adjusted consumption. Later revisions may change the estimates.
BEA’s original July release reported personal consumption spending rose 0.2% from the preceding month in current dollars.
Current-dollar measures capture the amount paid. They reflect changes in prices as well as changes in consumption.
-adjusted spending increased less than 0.1% at a monthly rate. These are the historical release’s estimates, not the latest revised figures.
The gap between and real growth helps distinguish the value of transactions from the underlying amount of consumption.
