Equinor and Eneco have agreed five years of Norwegian gas deliveries, with documented emissions data and a claimed footprint advantage that comes from production and transport.
Equinor and Eneco have signed a five-year agreement for Norwegian natural-gas deliveries to the Netherlands, the companies announced on October 13. Deliveries to the Dutch gas grid began on October 1, ahead of the announcement.
The contract covers around 9 , or , annually, equivalent to approximately 0.9 billion cubic metres. The energy measure describes the amount of energy supplied; the volume measure describes the quantity of gas. Commercial terms remain confidential.
The gas is sourced from the Norwegian continental shelf. Eneco says the agreement will provide Norwegian gas for all its residential and small-business gas customers in the Netherlands. The company describes continued gas supply as part of serving customers who still rely on it while Eneco works toward sustainable energy.
Equinor says the deal is its third long-term agreement with Eneco this year. Across those agreements, it says it supplies verified information about gas origin and the emissions associated with production and transport. The company presents Norwegian gas as a reliable European supply source with a comparatively low production-and-pipeline-transport emissions footprint.
Alongside the physical supply, Equinor will transfer verified environmental information through the digital platform operated by Attributes SA. Equinor says the platform independently tracks its emissions data using information reported to and published by Norwegian authorities.
The announcement puts the gas’s total footprint at 11.8% below the average for gas supplied through the Dutch grid. That comparison is based on 2025 and includes extraction, transport and combustion.
The calculation uses Dutch standard emissions factors from CO2-emissiefactoren.nl. Royal Haskoning performs the underlying natural-gas calculations used in that framework. Equinor says the comparison between its Norwegian supply and the Dutch gas mix is determined annually.
The source of the claimed difference is important: Equinor says it arises in extraction and transport, with no emissions difference when the gas is consumed.
The supply agreement combines a long-term delivery commitment with documentation of origin and emissions. Eneco’s stated purpose is to maintain supply for household and small-business customers; Equinor’s stated purpose includes making the production-and-transport characteristics of that supply traceable.
