The RBI’s data-management and reporting platform; dealers use it to submit the daily details required under the direction.
Save conceptThe Centralised Information Management System, or CIMS, is the Reserve Bank of India’s data-management platform. The RBI launched it as its next-generation data warehouse in 2023. A data warehouse brings information together in an organised system so it can be processed and analysed. In financial regulation, this helps the authority receive reports from institutions and use those reports in its monitoring and analysis.
A reporting requirement specifies what an institution must submit, the relevant measurement period and the deadline or frequency. CIMS provides the designated system for submissions required through that channel. For the RBI’s October 2026 rule, dealers must report their reserve details through CIMS daily. The platform receives information about the cash requirement; it is not itself the money held as the reserve.
Imagine a fictional dealer has arranged a covered contract and maintains the required cash at the central bank. Its reporting team prepares the reserve details for the relevant day and submits them through the specified system. The cash holding and the data submission are separate obligations. A successful report shows that the information was submitted; the dealer must still make sure the stated cash holding and underlying contract records are correct.
Distinguish a reporting platform from a payments network, a customer and the institution’s own account records. CIMS is an information-management system used by the RBI, rather than a service through which an ordinary customer buys . Also distinguish the availability of a reporting channel from the accuracy of the information sent to it. Definitions, record quality and compliance with the particular direction still matter.
