A computerised customs-management system developed by UN Trade and Development for processing trade procedures.
A trader or authorised agent submits information about a shipment, including its goods, value and supporting documents. Customs uses the declaration to apply the relevant classification, duties and controls. Electronic processing can reduce repeated data entry and support risk-based checks. The result still depends on accurate declarations, reliable systems and coordination with the agencies that issue required approvals.
Imagine an importer submitting one electronic declaration for machinery before the shipment arrives. Customs identifies a missing document and asks for it through the system. Once the document is accepted and the required payment and checks are complete, release can proceed. The hypothetical saving is less time transferring paper between offices; it is not an exemption from inspection or duty.
